About STABLE

STABLE (Higher Education Partnership for a Sustainable Blue Economy) is a collaborative initiative connecting leading ASEAN and European institutions to strengthen education, research, and innovation in sustainable marine resource management.

The program addresses the need for modernized curricula and capacity building in line with the Blue Transformation agenda, as emphasized in The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (2024). It focuses on integrating sustainable practices, innovative technologies, and socio-economic perspectives into higher education for the marine and coastal sectors.

Led by IPB University (Indonesia) in partnership with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT, Malaysia), University of Groningen (Netherlands), University of Oldenburg (Germany), and the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT Bremen, Germany), STABLE aims to:

  • Improve and harmonize postgraduate study structures.
  • Develop advanced training, joint research, and field-based learning on Blue Economy themes.
  • Foster academic exchange through international symposiums and collaborative publications.

Through this partnership, STABLE contributes to SDG 14 – Life Below Water, promoting innovation, collaboration, and community engagement for a sustainable Blue Economy.

Message from Project Coordinator

The STABLE Project (Higher Education Partnership for a Sustainable Blue Economy) embodies our collective commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation for the sustainable use of marine and coastal resources. Through collaboration among leading universities in ASEAN and Europe, this initiative seeks to strengthen academic capacity, modernize curricula, and integrate the latest knowledge and technology to support the growing global demand for sustainable marine management.

At IPB University, we believe that universities play a pivotal role in shaping future leaders and scientists capable of addressing the complex challenges facing our oceans. By aligning our efforts with the principles of the Blue Transformation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly SDG 14 on Life Below Water, STABLE strives to bridge science, policy, and community engagement for real impact.

We are proud to lead this partnership with University of Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), University of Groningen, University of Oldenburg, and Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT). Together, we aim to create a dynamic learning ecosystem that fosters innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and global connectivity. May this collaboration not only strengthen academic excellence but also inspire tangible actions toward a resilient and sustainable Blue Economy for our shared future.
