Advance Training and Summer School

To ensure the effective implementation of the updated curricula, lecturers require enrichment of knowledge and skills in advanced research practices and methodologies relevant to the Sustainable Blue Economy. This training and summer school are designed to bridge that gap.

Two distinct 5-day advanced training sessions are scheduled for 2025 in Germany for a total of 28 participants.

  1. At ZMT Bremen: The training will cover “Sustainable Governance and Conservation of Coastal Areas and Resources.” It will host 14 participants, including 6 staff from IPB, 2 from UMT, 5 from Bremen, and 1 from Groningen.

IPB University representatives for the Advance Training at ZMT Bremen will be attended by 3 staff from the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, 2 staff from the Department of Marine Science and Technology, and 1 STABLE committee. The organizer (ZMT Bremen) will be attended by two internal experts, one external expert, one student assistant, and one ZMT Director throughout the training.

  1. At University of Oldenburg: The training will focus on “Blue Carbon, Blue Food, Aquaculture, and Marine Fisheries.” It will also involve 14 participants, consisting of 6 staff from IPB, 2 from UMT, 1 from Bremen, and 5 from Oldenburg. The expected outcome for both training sessions is lecturers trained in advanced research methodologies and Horizon Europe processes, as well as enriched teaching materials that integrate SDG-relevant topics.

IPB University representatives attending the Advance Training in Oldenburg will be represented by one staff member each from the Department of Aquaculture, the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, the Department of Aquatic Product Technology, the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization, a representative from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and the STABLE committee. The organizer (Oldenburg) will be accompanied by two internal experts, one external expert, one student assistant, and one Oldenburg Director during the training.

A 10-day joint summer school will be conducted in Bogor, Indonesia, in 2026. The event will host 25 participants from all partner institutions, comprising 13 students (5 IPB, 3 UMT, 2 ZMT Bremen, 1 Oldenburg, 2 Groningen) and 12 staff/lecturers. The theme is “Building Resilience to Coastal and Ocean Risks: The Role of Nature-Based Solutions in Supporting a Sustainable Blue Economy.” The expected outcome is the institutionalization of a high-quality joint academic program that can be held annually, as well as an enhanced student understanding of the practical application of Blue Economy principles.
