Joint Symposium and Publication
The culmination of the research activities is the dissemination of results to a wider audience, including academics, policymakers, and civil society. A joint symposium serves as a crucial platform for cross-cultural knowledge exchange, scientific validation, and the formation of a multi-sectoral network.
A 5-day international symposium will be held at the University of Groningen, Netherlands, in the spring of 2027. The event will bring together 28 participants, including staff, experts, and students from all partner institutions (8 staff and 5 students from IPB; 3 staff and 3 students from UMT; and representatives from Bremen, Oldenburg, and Groningen). The expected outcomes are the dissemination of research findings through symposium proceedings and the formation of more solid international research partnerships.
Following the event in Europe, a second 5-day symposium is scheduled for the autumn of 2027 in Bali, Indonesia. This symposium will host 33 participants from the consortium (13 staff and 5 students from IPB; 3 staff and 3 students from UMT; and representatives from Bremen, Oldenburg, and Groningen) and other relevant stakeholders. The expected outcomes are the strengthening of the academic network, joint publications in international journals, an enhanced international profile for the Derawan Islands as a prime research location for the Blue Economy, and conservation action in Indonesia.
